DUBS, JAKOB (1822-1879), Swiss statesman, was born on July 26, 1822, at Affoltern, and studied law at Heidelberg, Berne and Zurich. After holding various offices in his native canton, he was elected a member and, in 1857, president of the Federal court. He was president of the Swiss Confederation in 1864 and in 1868. He died at Lausanne on Jan. 13, 1879. He pub lished Die Schweizer Demokratie (1866) and Des off entliche Recht der scliweizerischen Eidgenossenschaft
