ELBERTON, a city of north-eastern Georgia, U.S.A., tom. from the Savannah river; the county seat of Elbert county. It is served by the Elberton and Eastern, the Seaboard Air Line, and the Southern railways. The population was 6,475 in 192o; 4,65o in 193o. The region produces especially cotton, grain, clovers, alfalfa and peaches. There are many granite quarries in the vicinity, and the city manufactures cotton drills and denims, cot ton-seed oil and artificial silk. It was founded about 179o.
