ELCHINGEN, a village of Germany, in Bavaria, not far from the Danube, 5m. N.E. from Ulm. Here, on Oct. 14, 1805, the Austrians under Riesch were defeated by the French under Ney, who by taking the bridge decided the day and gained for himself the title of duke of Elchingen. (See NAPOLEONIC CAM PAIGNS.) The pop. was only 669 in 1933.
