ENGELHARDT, JOHANN GEORG VEIT (1791 1855), German theologian, was born at Neustadt-on-the-Aisch on Nov. 12, 1791, and was educated at Erlangen, where he afterwards taught in the gymnasium (1817), and became professor of theology in the university (1821). His great works were a Hand buch der Kirchengeschic/ite, 4 vols. (1833-34), and a Dogmenge schichte in 2 vols. (1839). He died at Erlangen on Sept. 13, 1855.
