EITNER, ROBERT (1832-1905), German composer and music historian, was born at Breslau on Oct. 22, 183 2. He pub lished a number of musical compositions, notably Cantata pour la Pentecote, Judith, an opera, Stabat Mater and Ouvorture du Cid. In 1863 he established a music school in Berlin. It is as an his torian of music, however, that he is best known, and among his important publications were Verzeichnis Neuer Ausgaben alter Musikwerke (1871) ; Bibliographie der Musiksammelwerke des 16. and 17. Jahrhunderts (1877); and Biographisch-bibliograph isches Quellenlexikbn der Musiker and Musikgelehrten bis zur Mitte des 19. Jahrhundert (io vol., 1900-04). He died in Templin on Feb. 2, 1905.
