EPILOBIUM, a genus of plants of the family Onagraceae, popularly called willow-herbs (q.v.). There are about 16o species, all confined to temperate and Arctic regions ; 9 are found in the British Isles and about 4o occur in North America. They are mostly tall herbs with pink, purple or whitish flowers.
