ESCHWEILER, a town of Germany, in the Prussian Rhine province, on the Inde, and the Cologne-Herbesthal railway, about 8 m. E.N.E. from Aix-la-Chapelle. Pop. (1933) 34,73r. The manufacture of iron, steel and zinc goods is carried on; other industries include tanning, distilling and brewing. In the neigh bourhood there are valuable coal mines.
