ERDMANN, JOHANN EDUARD Ger man philosophical writer, was born at Wolmar, Livonia, on June 13, 18o5. He studied theology at Dorpat and afterwards at Ber lin, where he fell under the influence of Hegel. From 1829 to 1832 he was a pastor in Wolmar. He qualified in philosophy at Berlin in 1834, and in 1836 became professor at Halle, where he died on June 12, 1892. Erdmann's fame rests on his elaborate Grundriss der Geschichte der Philosophie (2 vols., 1866, Eng. trans. 1892) .
