FAIRBURY, a city of south-eastern Nebraska, U.S.A., on the Little Blue river, tom. from the Kansas State line; the county seat of Jefferson county. It is served by the Burlington, the Rock Island, and the St. Joseph and Grand Island railways. The popu lation was 5,454 in 1920 (94% native white), and was 6,192 in 193o by the Federal census. It is in a farming and poultry-raising country, and there are large nurseries in the vicinity. The city has railroad shops and iron works ; flour, planing and alfalfa mills; cement, tile and brick works; a creamery and a condensed-milk plant; and a windmill factory. Fairbury was settled about 1869 and incorporated in 1873.
