FERNIE, a town in the east Kootenay district of British Columbia. Pop. (1931) 2,732. It is on the Crow's Nest branch of the Canadian Pacific railway and on the Canadian National railway at the junction of Coal Creek with the Elk river, and has extensive coal mines. There are about Soo coke ovens, sawmills, railway shops, a brewery, a foundry, machine shops, etc.
