FOHR, a German island in the North Sea, belonging to the province of Schleswig-Holstein, and situated off its coast. It comprises an area of 32 sq.m. Far, the most fertile of the North Frisian islands, is principally marshland, and comparatively well wooded. The inhabitants are mainly engaged in the fishing industry, and are known as excellent sailors. It is also a summer resort and the chief town, Wyk, had a pop. of 2,725 in 1933.
