FORT ATKINSON, a city of Jefferson county, Wisconsin, U.S.A., on the Rock river, 57m. S.W. of Milwaukee. It is served , by the Chicago and North Western railroad. The population waE in 1920; 1930 it was 5,793. There are six creameries in the immediate vicinity, and the city has a number of Gen. Henry Atkinson built a stockade here during the Black Hawk War. Permanent settlement began in 1838, and the city was incorporated in 1878.
