Since his journeys in 1907 through lower India, Ceylon and Egypt, and in 1910 through the Sahara, Fitting has devoted himself to work on orchids, the rubber plant, the sensitiveness of mimosa, osmotic pressure in desert plants and the metabolism of salts in the cell. He has published numerous papers in Jahrbucher fur wissensch. Botanik, which he has edited since 1920.
