Juan Pablo Forner


FORNER, JUAN PABLO (1756-1797), a Spanish satirist and scholar who was author of the violent diatribe El Asno erudito (1782), was born at Merida on Feb. 23, 1756, and died at Madrid on March 17, Under various pseudonyms, he engaged in a series of polemics with Garcia de la Huerta, Iriarte and other writers. His brutality in attack is almost unexampled, but his posthumous Exequias de la lengua castellana testifies to his scholarship and talent.
