FORELAND, NORTH and SOUTH, two chalk head lands in Kent, England, on the Strait of Dover. The North Fore land forms the north-east corner of the Isle of Thanet, and South Foreland is 3 m. N.E. of Dover. Both form bold cliffs, with one lighthouse on the North Foreland (50 ° 22'j N., I° 27' E.) and two on South Foreland (51 ° 8Y N., 1 O 23' E.) . Another Foreland is on the north coast of Devonshire, on Bristol channel, 22 m. N.E. of Lynmouth.
