FRAHN, CHRISTIAN MARTIN German numismatist, was born at Rostock on July 4, 1782, and settled in Russia as professor of oriental languages at Kazan. He then became director of the Asiatic museum in St. Petersburg, where he died on Aug. 28, 1851. Frahn was a standard authority on Asiatic coins.
Frahn wrote over 15o works. Among the more important are: Numophylacium orientale Pototia num (1813) ; De numorum But gharicorum f onte antiquissimo (18i6) ; Numi cufici ex variis museis selecti (1823) ; Notice dune cen taine d'ouvrages arabes, etc., qui manquent en grande partie aux bibliotheques de l'Euro pe (1834) , and Nova supplementa ad recen sionem Num. Muham. Acad. Imp. Sci. Petropolitanae (1855)
