FORT KNOX, an army reservation in Kentucky. Here the U. S. government (Aug., 1936), completed a guarded treasury for the U.S. metallic reserve of about $io,000.000,000. This "strong box," 600 miles inland from the Atlantic seaboard, is a solid square bomb proof and burglar proof building with flanking gun turrets at the angles. There are vaults underground, constructed of torch proof steel and guarded by modern devices like the photo electric eye. The military garrison exceeds i,000 men.
