FRIAR-BIRD, the name given to several Australian birds of the honey-eater family from their ruff of feathers on the head, and sober plumage. The best-known species is Tropidorhynchus corniculatus, also known as Pimlico and Four o'Clock, imitations of its loud cry. Friar-birds are bold and noisy, haunting trees in small flocks.
