JAMES, HENRY, an American novelist and essayist; born in New York, April 15, 1843. He was educated in France and Switzerland and at Harvard Law School. After 1869 he made his home in England. jAMES, MONTAGUE RHODES, a British educator. He was born in Suf folk and educated at Eton and Cam bridge. He became Sandars Reader in Bibliography at Cambridge in 1903, and vice-chancellor in 1913. He was for a time director of Fitzwilliam Museum, and has been provost of King's College, Cam bridge, since 1905. He is now provost of Eton. His works include: "Ancient Li braries of Canterbury and Dover"; "Ghost Stories of an Antiquary"; sev eral editions of books of the Bible, and other works.
