HOLIDAYS of the several races dwelling in India chiefly occur at seasonal changes, hut also at the anniversaries of certain occurrences con nected with their religions or historical events. The dates of the public holidays vary with the lunar months, and those below are approximate : Christi/ill.

Shabuoth, or the Delivery of the Law, May 31.

Tishabaiab, or the day of Lamentation, August 1.

Rosh Hosana, or New Year's day, September 21-2`.2.

Kipur, or the days of Atonement, September 29-30.

Succoth, or the Feast of Tabernacles, October 5-13.

Hindus have many other festivals. Their name: differ in the several languages ; but there may be named here Bali-Pratipfula, Basant'h-Pancliami, Nag-Panchami, Kartiki Ekadasi, and others.

Mahomedans have also the Maliarram, Akliiri Char Sbamba, Chiraghan - i - Banda Nawaz, and Zinda Shah Madar, Pir Dastagir, and Uriis-i Kadar Parsecs have in addition, the Amardad, Jam. ahidi-Naoroz, Ardibehesht,Tasan, Meher-Ja.san, and others.
