JASMINU3f. Many of the jasmine genus of plants are very pretty shrubs, with white and yellow flowers, in most cases scented. The Yuthika savala kesi, having golden or auburn hair, brown as the yellow jasmine, was deemed a mark of beauty in ancient India, and in the west of India such hair is even now sometimes seen, but the prejudice in favour of ebon locks is so strong that it is considered a morbid affection of the hair, and the women dye and conceal it. In the Hero and Nymph occur the words, ' Her voice is music, her long tresses wear The jasmine's golden hue.' Jasminum angustifolium, Roxb.
