Ile was a friend of Albert I. who occasionally supplied the figures and animals in his pictures, which were for the most part moonlight scenes, depicted with a prevailing warill tone. At times he represented the sante usually towns or groups of Cottages On the banks of a canal or river, under the effect of sunlight. Fine speci mens of this kind arc in the National gallery, London. in the louvre, and in the .Nletropolitan .Museum. New York. Three remarkable examples of his conflagration effects. which he de picted with great truth. are in the Berlin Museum. which, besides four other of Ids work. contains one of his most effective moonlight !ducts. .1niong the best of the latter variety are IWO in the Gallery ;11111 one in the Vienna .Nlusetim. 'flie warmth :end glow of his coloring extend even to his winter landscapes, which may be seen to hest advantage in the museums of .1nisterdam and Brunswick. Ile died at Amsterdam. November 9, 1677.
