The destruction of an animal may be ordered by the Court where the ow aer is convicted of cruelty. But this can be done only where the Court is satisfied, upon the evidence of a veterinary surgeon, that it would be cruel to keep the animal alive. The costs of destruction are payable by the owner. And where there has been a previous conviction, or there is evidence as to the character of the owner that the animal, if left with him, is likely to be exposed to further cruelty, the Court may deprive him of his ownership and dispose of the animal as it thinks fit.
